Prior to the 1980s they were concentrated in Mexico and a small part of the American Southwest. White-winged Doves have only recently, in ecological terms, moved north and east. They rise in a panic at the least disturbance, which is a good survival trait given the number of raptors about, but frustrating for birders. It has been hanging out with a large flock of Mourning Doves, but the flock has been skittish. It was seen again occasionally, photographed Sunday afternoon and seen again Monday. 16, 2023) The rarity of the week was a White-winged Dove, which appeared at a feeder in town Friday.
